Focal bars call out California on the same states.burden_score column the guides cite; the gauge places that score on the corpus range (28.5–65.0). Topic mix on the right is editorial coverage, not a second DB query.

Methodology

Guide prose cites publicly available government and research sources. Ladder figures on this hub (burden ranks, composite scores, corpus average) are the same live states columns used on rankings and state pages, not a hand-typed second table.

When a guide walks through reciprocity, fees, or CE rules, treat the linked profession and state pages as the current numeric source of truth. Editorial process includes periodic reviews against board schedules and the IJ License to Work / NCSL vintages listed on methodology.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures and the Institute for Justice, the August 2026 PlainCredential guide library references 4,947 licensing requirement records; see the methodology.
